My first couple of weeks with the Bolt EV
Saturday marked two weeks of Bolt EV ownership for me. What a fun car to drive!!!
The official EPA mileage number is 238 miles on a full charge. I took that number as a challenge to see just how far I could go on my first full charge.
So, to start with, I went two full weeks on one charge. I think that's pretty incredible, and when I hooked the car up in the garage, it still had 30 miles left (but I didn't want to risk it.)
There was one factor that we don't do every week - we drove up to the top of Mount Mitchell the first Sunday with the car. It took a lot of juice to get up there, but we did nothing but generate electricity with the regenerative braking all the way back down. That's about a 30 mile x 2 drive.
I also plugged it into the plug at Whole Foods 4 times - each for about 10 minutes. That probably added around 10 miles in range - not a big factor.
So, how many miles did I drive? Drumroll please...
A whopping 295.6 miles!!!
I leave for Raleigh in the morning and will have a full charge. I have my plugshare map ready to DC Fastcharge on the way. I'm staying at a hotel that has a charging station in both Raleigh and Charlotte. I'll report back on the ease (or not) of extended travel in the Bolt.
