Random thought Tuesday...

So, I'm new to this blogging gig. I am really enjoying it, though. After getting my required work done earlier, I sat down to write a post for the day and just drew a blank. I looked through The Times, The Journal and a couple of my other go-tos. Nothing. So, I'm going to try simply making Tuesdays Random Thought Tuesday. Let's see how this goes...

The Senate voted today to begin debate on repealing/repealing & replacing the Affordable Care Act. Now I definitely know that the ACA has its problems (my premiums have risen considerably with no greater benefit over the years) However, I also understand that healthcare coverage shouldn't be something only the wealthy can afford and that by having to pay a little bit more, I'm helping to subsidize somebody who might not be able to afford it. I'm comfortable with that.

I really wish the elected representatives in Washington would stop their blustering and grandstanding and actually put that negative energy into something positive: keeping what works and fixing what doesn't in the ACA. The irony, of course, is that none of the debate affects their own health insurance. Get this done folks - work together and make this right!

Speaking of getting things done, I finally bit the bullet and got a hearing aid. After going through the consultation process, I finally picked it up earlier today and am adjusting to being able to hear better out of my left ear.

I started losing my hearing in that ear about 7 or 8 years ago. The ENT physician there told me I had cochlear hydrops, which is like Meniere's Disease light. Basically, the cilia in your cochlea is no longer lubricated and can no longer pick up certain frequencies. For me, that starts around 4000 hz or so.

I was doing fine until this past March. Something changed when we were in Costa Rica, and my hearing got worse quickly. After that, I resolved to do something about it, and today is the culmination of a couple months of waiting and testing. I'm the proud owner of a new Oticon hearing aid. Thanks Dr. Davies for for your help! I've learned that its ok to have a hearing aid.

And finally...I thought I'd share the books I'm currently reading:
